Bonnie Raitt Self Produces New Single “Made Up Mind”

Made Up Mind is the new single being released on a new album by Bonnie Raitt.

Her bluesy-rock style and husky voice, paired with her emotional songwriting, made her a huge success.

And now, she’s got something more to talk about!

Read on to find out what new music she’s releasing and if she’s touring in 2022.

Let’s get started!

Bonnie Raitt is Releasing a New Single Called Made Up Mind

Blues artist Bonnie Raitt self-produced her new single, Made Up Mind, to be released on April 22, 2022. The song will be on her new album, Just Like That, her 18th since 1971. It’s also her first new record in six years.

Raitt and her sound engineer Ryan Freeland produced the album and released it via Redwing. Critics say that Made Up Mind is a masterpiece of rockin’ blues.

She recorded the album in the summer of 2021 at her home in Sausalito, California. It shows how Raitt has been able to stay fresh, creative, and vibrant for fifty-plus years.

She says in her bio, “I always want to find songs that excite me, and what’s different this time is that I’ve tried some styles and topics I haven’t touched on before.”

About Bonnie Raitt

Bonnie Raitt was born November 8, 1949, in Burbank, California. Her mother was a pianist, and her father was an actor in musical theatre. Bonnie received her first guitar, a Stella, for Christmas when she was eight.

Her parents encouraged her and her brothers to pursue music. As a teenager at summer camp, she played guitar and sang to her fellow campers. It was there she began to realize her talent.

She went to Radcliffe College of Harvard in 1967. This experience fueled her activism throughout her life. She left college in her second year to move to Philadelphia and devote herself to music.

Raitt began to play with well-known musicians and scored a record contract with Warner Bros in 1971. Her first album was self-titled and warmly received by the press and musicians. She had begun to pave the way for female guitarists but wasn’t successful with the public until 1977’s album, Sweet Forgiveness. After this, though, her success lagged for over a decade.

Raitt struggled with alcohol and substance abuse during this time. However, she continued to perform, write, and make albums through the 1980s. She also still participated in political activism.

Bonnie also sang in Farm-Aid and Amnesty international concerts. She traveled to Moscow to participate in the first joint American/Soviet peace concert. This concert later aired on Showtime.

She got clean of drugs and alcohol in 1987 and never looked back. She said, “I really feel like some angels have been carrying me around. I just have more focus and discipline, and consequently more self-respect.”

Raitt’s first commercial hit was Nick of Time in 1989. She followed up with two more multi-million dollar selling albums, Luck of the Draw and Longing in Their Hearts. You’re probably familiar with many of the songs off these albums.

What Are Some of Bonnie Raitt’s Most Well-Known Songs?

I Can’t Make You Love Me

I Can’t Make You Love Me appeared on Bonnie’s 1991 album, Luck of the Draw. Written by Allen Shamblin and Mike Reid, it was on the Billboard Top 100 for 20 weeks. It’s the story of unrequited love and longing. Raitt says that she loved it the first time she heard it.

According to the Los Angeles Times, “It was absolutely one of the most original and honest heartbreak songs I’d ever heard.”

Something To Talk About

Something to Talk About was also on Raitt’s 1991 album Luck of the Draw. Singer Anne Murray originally wanted to record this song, but her producers thought it wouldn’t be a hit. The song is about two friends who hear rumors that they’re lovers. One wonders if they should have an affair since they’re already guilty in everyone’s eyes. It hit #5 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Angel From Montgomery

Angel From Montgomery was initially written by John Prine and released in 1971. It’s a song about a middle-aged woman with many regrets. She feels older than she is and wants someone to take her away from her life.

In 1972 Carly Simon recorded it on her album No Secrets. However, Bonnie Raitt sang it on her 1974 album Streetlights. Her version became the most well-known and heart-rending.

Who is Bonnie Raitt Touring With in 2022?

Bonnie Raitt will tour with fellow blues legends Lucinda Williams and Mavis Staples in the summer of 2022. The Just Like That tour opens in Cincinnati and finishes in San Diego.

She’s eager to tour again and connect with her fans after a long hiatus. This year she’ll also receive Billboard Magazine’s Icon award and a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy.

Made Up Mind is Sure to be a Hit

Bonnie Raitt is prolific within multiple genres, not just blues and rock. She’s brought musicians, people, and countries together through music to fight for her causes and beliefs.

She collaborates with many music legends and fights for marginalized artists to receive the recognition they deserve. She’s a Rock ’n roll Hall of Famer and a goddess in the music industry. Her new single and album are sure to show up high on the charts!
