Cat Stevens is a British singer-songwriter known for songs like "The First Cut is the Deepest" and "Moonshadow". He was born Stephen Demetre Georgiou in 1948 and signed his first record contract at 18, but became depressed and self-medicated with alcohol, leading to tuberculosis in 1968.
Cat Stevens converted to Islam in 1977 and gave up secular music, but gradually returned to music in the 90's. He has received many humanitarian awards for his commitment to peace and finding harmony between Islam and the Western world.
Stevens has toured and recorded with many famous musicians, including Jimi Hendrix, Englebert Humperdinck, Peter Gabriel, and Dolly Parton.
