Paula Cole wrote and sang some of the biggest hits of the 90s, but has since fallen off the face of the earth.
Cole grew up with teachers for parents and studied jazz and improvisation at Berklee College of Music. She signed with Imago Records in 1992 and released her first album, Harbinger, in 1994. In 1996, she released This Fire, which earned her several Grammy nominations.
You’ve probably heard Paula Cole’s most popular songs. Two of the tunes can be heard on her album, This Fire. Where Have All the Cowboys Gone? charted at number 8, and I Don’t Want to Wait landed at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. Cole released “14” on her 2007 album Courage after a seven-year hiatus.
Paula Cole has released seven records since ending her hiatus in the early 2000s, including her 2012 album Raven. Her latest release, For The Birds, features Jason Isbell and John Paul White.
